6d Protein Unit

A Protein Unit is a dosing unit that represents exactly 20g of protein, of which at least 2g is L-Leucine. The Protein Unit creates consistency across our 6d Protein Series, making it easy to meet individual protein needs after exercise and throughout the day.

Why does 1 Protein Unit contain 20g of protein?

Protein intake enhances muscle adaptation in athletes, a process known as muscle protein synthesis. Consuming 20g of high-quality protein in a meal or supplement provides a strong but brief response, which is ideal for most individuals who consume protein every 3-5 hours.

Increasing the dose to 40g enhances this response, though to a lesser extent, making 40g a good option for those seeking a stronger effect. A 40g protein dose is also recommended when the next meal is more than 5 hours away, making it well-suited as a pre-sleep dose or before an (intermittent) fasting period.

High protein consumption may reduce appetite, which is beneficial for athletes aiming to cut weight but challenging for those with high energy needs. With 20g of protein per Protein Unit, athletes can easily tailor their intake to meet their specific needs.

Why does 1 Protein Unit contain at least 2g of L-leucine?

Protein is made up of amino acids, which are the building blocks of muscle tissue. Among these, L-Leucine plays a crucial role in stimulating muscle protein synthesis. Therefore, we primarily use whey protein in our Protein Series, which naturally provides a minimum of 2g of L-leucine per 20g of protein.

Which protein sources are used in the Protein Series?

Recovery Shake and Whey Shake both feature a premium blend of whey protein isolate and concentrate. This premium blend keeps fat and lactose content under 1g, promoting rapid absorption and strong effectiveness without unnecessary calories. It also ensures a creamy texture and great taste, making these shakes ideal for most athletes.

Whey Drink is made with a premium whey isolate, while Whey Shot is made with beta-lactoglobulin (BLG). BLG, the most leucine-rich fraction of whey, is the only quality protein source that enables a high-protein dose in a compact, great-tasting shot. Excellent for those who prefer a lighter texture resembling a refreshing drink, or for those who wish to avoid fat and lactose entirely.
