How many Sports Unit do I need?

Fueling was never this easy. Based on your sport, your exercise intensity or goals, take 1, 2 or even up to 3 Sports Units per hour during exercise. The choice of products (drinks, gels, or bars) depends on your personal preference, and your need for fluids and sodium (+electrolytes).

1 Sports Unit = 30g of carbohydrates / hour

Why a 2:1 Carb Ratio for the Sports Unit?

During exercise, the absorption of glucose from the gut to the bloodstream is limited at around 60-70g per hour. However, by adding fructose to glucose, the total amount of carbohydrate that can be absorbed, can be increased to at least 90g per hour, when combined with regular “gut” training.

Therefore, a 2:1 Carb Ratio makes efficient use of both absorption routes. Additionally, due to the high sweetness of fructose, a 2:1 carbohydrate ratio strikes the best balance between efficient fuel supply and great taste.

Tailored sodium levels

In hot weather or when your sweat rates are high, it’s beneficial to consume more Sports Units via our Sports Drink. This way, you’ll be getting your fluid and electrolytes together with your carbohydrates for optimal hydration. In cooler weather, your hydration and sodium needs are lower, so using more Sports Units without added sodium through bars or chews makes sense.

Our gels provide the middle ground in sodium dose, making them suitable for use in both hot and cold conditions, with water as the main fluid provider.
