During moderate to intensive sports activities lasting 1-3 hours, a carbohydrate intake of 30g, 60g, or even 90g per hour is commonly recommended for optimal performance. This is why 1 Sports Unit contains exactly 30g of carbohydrates, allowing athletes to easily and accurately achieve their desired carbohydrate intake. The ideal carbohydrate intake depends on the athlete, their goals, and the type of sport they practice.

During exercise, the absorption of glucose from the intestine into the bloodstream is limited to approximately 60-70g per hour. By adding fructose to glucose, the total carbohydrate absorption can be increased to at least 90g per hour, especially in combination with regular “gut training”.

A 2:1 Carb Ratio therefore makes efficient use of both absorption pathways. Furthermore, the natural sweetness of fructose within the 2:1 ratio provides the perfect balance between efficient energy supply and a delicious taste.

Fluids and electrolytes (primarily sodium) are essential for optimal hydration. As you lose more sweat, your need for fluids and electrolytes also increases. Therefore, our sports drinks contain a mix of electrolytes with 400mg of sodium. By using our sports drinks, you automatically replenish the electrolytes you lose through sweating.

Our gels are often used as the sole energy source during exercise, with water providing the necessary hydration. To support hydration, we have added 200 mg of sodium to our gels. This isn't necessary for bars, as they are often used in combination with our sports drinks, which are rich in sodium and electrolytes. However, our bars with "salty" flavors do contain 200mg of sodium and are therefore specifically intended for individuals who lose a lot of salt and thus have a higher need for sodium.
