A SPORTS UNIT is a dosing unit that represents exactly 30g of carbohydrates in a 2:1 CARB RATIO. The SPORTS UNIT creates consistency across our 6d SPORTS SERIES to make personalized fueling simple and straightforward.

To optimize performance during moderate-to-high-intensity sports of 1-3 hours, it is recommended that athletes achieve a carbohydrate intake of 30g, 60g or even up to 90g per hour. Therefore, 1 SPORTS UNIT represents exactly 30g of carbohydrates to reach these carbohydrates targets in a convenient and precise way. The exact carbohydrate target will depend on the athlete, their goals, and their sport.

During exercise, the absorption of glucose from the gut to the bloodstream is limited at around 60-70g per hour. However, by adding fructose to glucose, the total amount of carbohydrate that can be absorbed, can be increased to at least 90g per hour, when combined with regular “gut” training. Therefore, a 2:1 CARB RATIO makes efficient use of both absorption routes. Additionally, due to the high sweetness of fructose, a 2:1 carbohydrate ratio strikes the best balance between efficient fuel supply and great taste.

Fluids and electrolytes (mainly sodium) are essential for optimal hydration. As sweat losses increase, so does the need to replace fluids and electrolytes. Therefore, our sports drinks contain an electrolyte blend with 400mg of sodium. When you use our sports drinks, you replace the electrolytes which are lost through sweating.

Our gels are often used during exercise as a sole fuel provider, with water as the main fluid provider. Therefore, 200mg of sodium is included in all our gels, while our bars are free of added sodium. Bars are mostly used in combination with our sports drinks, which already contain high amounts of sodium and electrolytes. However, our bars with “salty” flavors do contain 200mg of sodium, and are therefore specifically geared towards salty sweaters with higher sodium needs.
