Jolien's 6d essentials

During races, Jolien relies on the Sports Gel. Additionally, during intense training sessions, she uses the Sports Chew as a tasty supplement to her sports drink. Her absolute favorite flavor is the Ultra Chew Strawberry , which she currently consumes daily. After every training, Jolien finishes with whey protein for optimal recovery. As she says herself: “I really couldn’t do without the Whey Shot anymore. So convenient to take with me!”

Training & nutrition

Jolien carefully adjusts her carbohydrate intake during training and races according to the intensity and duration of the effort. She provides a detailed insight into realistic intakes for a short-distance triathlete.

During easy swim sessions (1.5 to 2 hours), Jolien takes 30–45g of carbohydrates via Sports Drink, while in a hard session this can rise to 75g with an extra gel or chew. On the bike, her intake ranges from 45g/h during light training to 60g/h during intense sessions. Finally, she only supplements carbohydrates during tough, longer run sessions with about 60g/h. Still, she never leaves without an “emergency gel”, you never know!

Even in her races, Jolien follows a clear plan: during a sprint, she drinks half a liter of Sports Drink on the bike and takes one Sports Gel, while during a 2-hour Olympic distance, she consumes up to 120g through extra gels, depending on how she feels.
