“As a professional athlete, I want to optimize my performance by surrounding myself with the best brands on the planet. And I believe that 6d is part of that.”

John Heymans Professional runner and Olympian

About John

John Heymans, Olympic middle-distance runner, switched from hockey to athletics as a university student and quickly discovered his talent on the track. For John, running is all about happiness and satisfaction: the greater the challenge, the greater the satisfaction, and that drives him to train and perform every day. This drive took him to the 5000m final at the Olympic Games. His ultimate ambition is to break all Belgian national records from the 3000m to the half marathon. As a top athlete, he consciously chooses 6d, a brand that puts science above marketing and helps him optimize his performance.

John's essential products

John's 6d essentials

“The Sports Drink is my most essential product. Of course, there are plenty of other 6d products I like, but the Sports Drink is by far the one I use the most during training. I burn a lot of sugars and lose a lot of fluid/sweat while training. The Sports Drink helps me replenish these.” To recover, John relies on the Recovery Shake; besides an effective dose of protein, it also contains additional carbohydrates and electrolytes. He’s a fan of the Vanilla flavor. Runners who prefer something with a bit more bite can top up their carbohydrates with the Sports Chew.

Training & nutrition

John loves training days with a double threshold workout, also known as “The Norwegian Method.” These are tough sessions around the lactate threshold with lots of mileage, often more than 30 km in total. “I can feel my body getting stronger during such long and intense training days. Refueling with 6d is absolutely necessary,” says John.

On days with more than 25 km planned, he aims for 130g or more of carbohydrates before and during training. He reaches this target by combining Sports Drink and Ultra Drink with the Sports Chew.
