Ultra Series
Push past conventional fueling limits.
6d Ultra Unit
Why does 1 Ultra Unit contain 45g of carbohydrates?
Ultra endurance athletes are pushing their carbohydrate intakes beyond the more “established” 90g per hour, with hourly intakes of up to 120g. Such intakes are harder to achieve with only our Sports Series, since they contain 1 Sports Unit, which represents only 30g of carbohydrates.
Therefore, 1 Ultra Unit represents exactly 45g of carbohydrates to reach intakes of 90g of carbohydrates per hour in a convenient and precise way, and even op to 120g per hour in combination with the Sports Unit.
Why a 1:1 Carb Ratio for the Ultra Unit?
Because glucose absorption from the gut to the bloodstream is limited at around 60-70g per hour, intakes exceeding 90g per hour require a higher amount of fructose to maximize the total amount of carbohydrates which can be absorbed. Therefore, a ratio with a higher fructose portion, like our 1:1 Carb Ratio, is necessary alongside the 2:1 Carb Ratio to offer flexible options for athletes. This allows them to achieve a range of intakes and ratios to meet their specific goals. For example:
- 2 Sports Units + 1 Ultra Unit: Results in a total of 105g of carbohydrates, of which 62,5g glucose and 42,5g fructose (= 1:07 Carb Ratio);
- 1 Sports Unit + 2 Ultra Units: Results in a total of 120g of carbohydrates, of which 65g glucose and 55g fructose (= 1:08 Carb Ratio);
